Root Canals

root canalIt is important to repair and save a tooth wherever possible
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is either badly decayed, infected, has a large filling, fracture or has experienced trauma . During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.

Some signs that a root canal is needed
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Pain when chewing or applying pressure
  • Discoloration or darkening of the tooth
  • Swelling and/or tenderness around the surrounding gums
  • A reoccurring pimple on the gums
Upon completion of root canal treatment, a build up and crown is then placed over top of the entire tooth for protection and strength.

Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved!
Although our goal here at our office is to preserve teeth, there does come a time when teeth extractions are necessary. With a current x-ray, Dr. Busch will perform most simple and surgical extractions. Once your extraction has had time to heal, we have several options to replace those missing teeth!
