spacer IS ANXIETY DETERRING YOUR DENTAL HEALTH CARE?

It is important for our overall health to maintain healthy teeth and gums! Unfortunately, for some people, Anxiety stands in the way! However the 'fear' of dental procedures and regular maintenance is mostly unfounded! But if anxiety is holding you back Dr. Busch can provide a solution.

Depending on your medical status we offer Oral Sedation or Inhalation Sedation. Of course, with either of these options, Dr. Busch will still use local anesthetic to numb your gums as necessary.
Oral Sedation or Inhalation Sedation is not intended to put you to sleep, but to help you relax. You will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the Dr. Busch may give you.

Oral Sedation
Oral Sedation has been Dr. Busch's 'go to' option for many years, and still provides an acceptable and practical solution; a small pill taken one hour before an appointment suppresses most anxiety problems.
The effects of Oral Sedation takes time to dissipate so it imperative that you DO NOT drive for a few hours after your appointment.

Before offering Oral Sedation we carefully examine each patient's current medication list to ensure there are no conflicts between their regular medication and our choice of Oral Sedation; and we have several alternatives to choose from.

HOWEVER, IF WE CANNOT SELECT AN ACCEPTABLE ORAL SEDATION AN ALTERNATIVE IS NEEDED!

Inhalation Sedation
Nitrous oxide, mixed with oxygen, is a safe and effective sedative agent that is inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. You breathe normally through your nose, and within a few minutes you will experience a euphoric, calm and comfortable, feeling spreading throughout your body.
When Dr. Busch has completed your procedure we use oxygen to 'flush' your system and eradicate the effects of nitrous oxide so you will be free to drive immediately after your appointment is complete.

traditional nitrous oxide mask Although Nitrous Oxide has long been available, Dr. Busch was reluctant to use it, as he was concerned that the delivery method, the traditional mask, could allow the gas to escape and affect himself and his assistants.

Porter Silhouette Breathing Circuit Fortunately the introduction of the Porter Silhouette Breathing Circuit completely meets Dr. Busch's safety criteria and is now the chosen delivery method of Inhalation Sedation at Better Bites By Busch.
